This is the book I'll be doing my CL123 paper on.
"What the careless whisper."
A psychedelic, disjointed, fragmented, mess of a novel that tells the story of a dysfunctional and separated Filipino family that migrated to the United States of America. It revolves around the second daughter's experiences in LA, her trip to New York, the formation of her band where the title of the book is taken from, and the downward spiral of her life and her family.
Seriously. This book is just about as hard to keep a track of as a Murakami story. Meanders from one account to another, shifts perspectives, has crazy dream sequences, has equally crazy characters, has lots of cryptic symbolism, and 60's rock/funk/jazz music references UP THE ASS. Well, Murakami didn't have any of the music references.
This is going to be some 20+ page paper.
