PostPost subject: SCOTT PILGRIM's PRECIOUS LITTLE LIFE Reply with quote

Yes, this title requires capitalization of the eponymous protagonist. Clear throat.

SCOTT PILGRIM is about a 23-year-old Canadian bass player and slacker extraordinaire who--to officially date the girl of his messed-up dreams, Ramona Flowers, relatively mysterious American ninja and Amazon.ca courier--must defeat her seven evil ex-boyfriends in (probably) single combat. SCOTT PILGRIM, himself, is a successful pugilist, who boasts a stunning repertoire of fighting moves, including his stunning 65-or-so-hit air juggle, but how will he fare against the past romances of his relatively mysterious American ninja girlfriend?

Yeah.

SCOTT PILGRIM offers an incredibly enjoyable read for all of you Tank Girl fans, and a nice break from all the soul-freezing clusterbombs my colleagues and I have featured in the past. If you like (or pretend to like) the garage rock culture, Nintendo, SEGA and several other video game references, likable characters, and wild, unhinged fight sequences over the span of a few pages, then I 100% recommend SCOTT PILGRIM.

There are already a few volumes out (4) that average 180 pages of punch-you-in-your-face, subtly deconstructive, comic/manga/Idon'tknowwhat fun! Collect them all! I know I will! If I can find them here! Nope! I won't be providing a link! It's an indie comic, see, and I have enormous reservoirs of respect and reverence for the indie scene, so too bad! I bummed my (real) copy from a friend, so you're on your own!

Psst, the above sentence is a lie. Try the Demonoid.

Here's the site! Comics creation care of corpulent Canadian-Korean cartoonist (7-word alliteration c-c-c-c-combo) Bryan Lee O'Malley. Check out the wiki if you're a neurotic frog-person who likes to read wikis.

I love Scott Pilgrim man.

I think I've finished the first two books before they were taken down from this site I visited (mahshelf, I think).

And holy your poetry, Michael Cera will be Scott in the movie?! careless whisper!

Wut. Why? Better him than Shia Leboof, I guess. Bro needs more screentime.

I'm kind of wondering if he can act anything other than "Awkward But Good-Intentioned Teenager".

No, it was a "why didn't I hear about this earlier" careless whisper.

He'd have to act all "let me show you how awesome I am" for this, or something similar. I'm waiting to see how they'll do that fight scene with those vampires (? they were vampires, right? iirc).

I think they got the eyes right, of what I remember of her anyway. Hey, if they can get Cera to work as Pilgrim, they can get her to work as Ramona.

I keep on forgetting they're in their twenties, Jesus.

I'm more worried about them making Knives not Chinese.

She has roughly the same build and she was in Planet Terror (or was it Death Proof?), which was awesome, so maybe she'll pull it off.

I don't think they would forget that Knives is Chinese, and judging from the fourth volume, deliciously tan.

Now THAT is a teaser. Thanks Carlo, looks like I'll be sleeping soundly tonight.

Also, a good chunk of the movie will be special effects made to look like hand drawn doodling, and with O'Malley working relatively closely with the director when it comes to the production and animation.

OH, and also Brandon Routh as an evil ex-boyfriend. Hoping it's that douchebag vegan with the tongue condition from Book 3. I careless whisper abhor that guy.

Now to find Book 5. Gad.

Everyone wants to be Scott Pilgrim, but most of the time, we just have to settle being Young Neil.

That "I'm young" dialog is the one thing that stuck to my mind about Young Neil.

Sometimes I wake up at three in the morning and without thinking, boot up my laptop and read one of the five volumes of Scott Pilgrim. I finish one, I have to finish one whole volume when this happens. And then I smile to myself and I know everything is going to be alright (even though we ain't got money). Then I go back to sleep.

Knives and Young Neil

Stacey and Ramona
(I imagined Stacey to be...more.)

KIM

I can't wait. ._.

Images taken from the director's blog, here. Check out the little video blogs he's been posting to see behind-the-scenes footage of the movie. It looks awesome![/img]

Oh. Oh, wow.

IRL Stacey's manface is exactly what I envisioned comics Stacey's manface to be. You know, IRL. Lacks a mustache, sideburns and an anchor tattoo, but we can't have everything.

Ramona looks like Ashley Tisdale. In distinct hobo garb. Or is it more distressed chic?

Pine looks positively ADORABLE. Be still, my heart. You too, pants.

Neil looks young, which is the only thing that matters. Can't see Knives that well on my end.

Seems to me they're turning up the hipster knob to 11. Not necessarily a bad thing, since they're going for the whole garage indie rock angle. The blue screen production images are pretty exciting, too. I'm looking forward to actual screens of the animated scenes.

At least there was no shoegaze BS.

Edit: Well, careless whisper me.

Ramona looks like Ramona.
And holy your poetry, Kim looks like that girl who played that girl in that girl movie.
He's Just Not That Into You, I think. A Justin Long flick.
