Yeah. But still, the picture, err image, is still worth a thousand words. (Another cliche, hah!).

I noticed one small detail one Philip Tan's variant cover pencils for B&R #4:
the billboard of "ABSOLUTE LAMBANOG". It actually made me laugh, for some time. Hehe Very Happy

Read it.
Didn't blow my mind.
I dunno.

Quite interesting though to see the Nolan stuff finally being integrated into the mainstream DC comic a bit. The ' Batcave ' for example is situated in more or less, an urban area - underneath the Wayne bldg, in this case . ( I presume ).

And it's about damn time that the Batmobile actually FLEW. It's a Bat-mobile.

Yet was kinda bothered by the frog guy, and the pig guy. Tell me something I'm not getting. Other than the bit about payment in diamonds, a new spin on the Batman and Robin dynamic, and a post-modernist treatment of Silver-age campy Batman style that worked ( in ways that ' All-Star Batman and Robin ' didn't ), it feels like the comic's got nothing much else yet at this point.

THE PIG GUY IS AN HOMAGE TO ORWELL'S ANIMAL FARM AND A CRITIQUE OF THE TOTALITARIAN UNDERPINNING OF AMERICAN SOCIETY BOTH LEGAL AND EXTRA-LEGAL

THE FROG GUY IS A NOD TO THE FROG PRINCE WHERE THE ARISTOCRATIC OLIGARCHY BECOMES ENTRENCHED IN RIDICULE AND CONTROVERSY THANKS TO THE MACHINATIONS OF THE FACELESS AND ALL-POWERFUL MEDIA

Also, the things that you mentioned are what made the series kick-off so well. To see Dick abandon his glory-hounding for, in my opinion, stand up for a cause greater than his own desires can only be classified as positive character growth. However, I would like to see him actually struggle under the shadow of the Bat, characterized in his donning of the costume and the presence of Bruce's demonspawn haranguing him every step of the way.

Damian's adorable. And to see him return to his baby-badass ways fills my heart with glee. And fear.

For a Morrison comic, I thought it was refreshingly subdued to hook younger demographics, yet sufficiently nuanced enough to catch the eye of older readers, and possibly geriatric pop-art aficionados who grew up on Adam West. It was sort of comparable to ASS, returning Batman to his roots a good majority of the world can recognize (in Superman's case, to his Silver-Age persona of the glass-world-tender-soul), and looking at it with the bifocals of the newer breed of artist.

I believe that we'll see the "burden of the cowl" thing in the main Batman title that Winnick will be writing. B&R looks to be concentrating on the "dynamics of the duo" (see what i did there) and aims to bring "strange fun".

You'll get your brooding and your internal monologues in "Batman".

Yeah.
Read it in a review somewhere. Missed that, damn.
Though it has always been a brisk, fun ride, through and through; that really delivers on the what Grant said when he said it to be the ' 60's Batman TV series meets David Lynch '. If anyone's going to tackle this Silver Age Batman style ( that All Star Batman and Robin Failed in ), might as well do it in this way where one gets to keep their smarts. He does so. No doubt.

Was just probably reacting to another review about it which compares this relaunch to ' New X-men ', saying it's got the same level of innovation . Not sure if I completely agree with that. I do hold a personal high regard for that revamp, w/c was truly reinvention from the ground up, that wasn't just in terms of the characters, and the villians, but the fleshing out of the contexts. It was less of changing the face of the leads and what not, much as a reevaluation of who they are, and what they mean and are suppose to do in the world; making the material truly matter in the post-millenial age. Plus, those changes truly felt like they were absolutely necessary and a long time coming.
From that standpoint, it would seem at first like Grant's new Batman was largely cosmetic by comparison, full of forced garishness, but maybe he's really onto something here...

I'm upgrading my ' review ' to pretty good.

This was a fun read. Light and interesting like an appetizer. Frank Quitely's artwork just doesn't work with faces. He did a good job with the machines, though. Damn clean lines and I like the color. Morrison should really stop with this fascination with Quitely. Either that or Quitely practices more with drawing human faces.

In the family, Damian's got the genius talent in the family. But if he survives this stint, hopefully he'll be less of a punk than when he started. He did get Alfred's approval even after he knocked him out so...

The uber-SF Batmobile is gonna make chasing villains easier for the new duo? It really looks like a lot of the designs of the hovercars during the 1990s which never took off. Or the latest hybrid car.

Think I saw a teaser of Tim in the Kingdom Come Red Robin costume fighting Dickbats, while the Batmobile is parked in the background.

Seriously, what is UP with the new Batmobile? Why is it everywhere all of the sudden?
