Morrison described his Question as someone who's Randian viewpoint had been "shattered through the prisms of his experiences as a crimefighter so that he sees the world through the multicolored lens of Spiral Dynamics."

I see nothing wrong with this. Reviving the Charlton characters is a fantastic idea. And as a fan of the Question, I'm actually very excited to see him back to his moral objectivist roots.

Of course, this can just be seen as a shrewd marketing ploy to hook the new Watchmen fans (via the movie). However, the fact that I'll be reading a series of stories that will feature old-school, laugh-at-your-face-while-you're-drowning-in-a-sewer Question makes up for it.

Oh, and an All-Star Captain Marvel sounds good. Haven't read a decent Captain Marvel story since Seven Trials. I'm really wishing they'd focus more on the fact that Captain Marvel's mentality is that of a 12-year old who has a pretty unshakable moral compass.

Good news, in general. Too early to tell if it'll be halfway decent, though. Here's to hoping that Morrison will lay off the hard opiates and NOT write All-Star Captain Marvel while in withdrawal.

[ALSO, WE HAVE A GENERAL COMICS RELATED BOARD NOW. IF YOU HAVE NEWS ARTICLES OF SIMILAR TYPE, POST IT THERE. WILL MOVE THIS TOMORROW.]

Hmm. Again, a bit too early to call character rape. Vic Sage has gone through multiple incarnations since the 80s (DCAU Question and crazy-ass, urban shaman of Rick Veitch). And since Darwyn Cooke, nobody wants to write a Randian Question anymore. Don't know why.

Then again, the Question was originally created to espouse that very relativist viewpoint. I'm disappointed that I won't be seeing Vic Sage again in his original element. If Morrison (or those careless whisper DC editors and managers) flubs this up, Ditko will spin in his grave (which he hasn't done since Spider-Man 3! DOHOHOHO).

He isn't dead yet, so let me add "if he were dead."

My major problem with this actually, is that why is Grant Morrison compelled to even do his own treatment of Watchmen ? Why, does he think he's THAT iconic, now, that it should mean more than him just swiping a preexisting work ? This reeks of such bloated sense of self-importance, it bugs me.

Better if it was in the direction of the socio-political, socio-cultural, of him basically excoriating, and leaving a dent on the world, and on superhero comics, or at least thinking that he does; his latest, most substantive example of which is ' Seaguy '. That's the Grant Morrison I know. It's the one that produced the truly remarkable stuff like ' The Invisibles ', ' JLA: Earth 2 ', ' WE3 ', and the ' New X-men ' run.

But this one is just ribbing on a fellow writer/ celebrity guy. I'm sure he would at least come out of this a damn fine man of letters ( he always does, whether I'd be agreeing with his views and poses, or not ), yet this just got the stench of blandness on it, of the endeavor getting in the way of freshness and opportunity. Who really needs yet another literal stab on Watchmen ? That's like endlessly feeding off the paperback you read in high school, instead of picking its ideas, and doing something else with it. Or this recent strain of your poetry horror remakes.

Would have been nice if it was really him taking ' Watchmen's lessons and ideas, and going with it elsewhere. But, revolutionary or not, this feels, reads and sounds like him simply doing a parallel version of an existing work ( i.e. Charlton Characters as original cast, a multi-perspective Question / Rorsharch, book can be read sideways ... ) nothing more. Different dressing for exactly the same product . Haven't seen anything yet to conclude for sure, but right now, feels tad bit, I dunno, inert.

Surely, part of the discomfort stems from this being something of a sacrilege. Yet what I can't understand is why does he even bother ? I read in lots of places that Morrison actually DESPISES ' Watchmen '; dismissed it, saying it's derivative and what not. So, what's the deal ?

Why does this guy feel the need to live under the shadow of Alan Moore, anyway ? He doesn't need to.
