A girl struggles with impending family disaster by escaping into a fantasy life of magic and monsters.

Barbara Thorson is your new hero. A quick-witted, sharp-tongued fifth grader who isn't afraid of anything. Why would she be..? After all, she's the only girl in school who carries an ancient Norse warhammer in her purse and kills giants for a living...

At least, that's what she'll tell you... but where does the fantasy end and reality begin in the heart of this troubled girl? And what if she's telling the truth?

I Kill Giants is the quirky, bittersweet story of a young girl struggling to conquer monsters both real and imagined as her carefully constructed world crumbles at the feet of giants bigger than any one child can handle.

I Kill Giants is written by Joe Kelly, and everything else is done by the überwünderkind JM Ken Niimura. His sheer artistic power will make you bleed.

Witty, charming, touching.

If you've ever struggled with the hard realities of life and wanted to escape from it all (which I'm sure we've all experienced), do yourself a favor and read this book. And if you see the actual issues, buy them. You won't regret it. It's only 7 issues.

Here are the first 6 and here's the final issue.

Dammit, you beat me to it. I just read the last issue last night. And I will, without hesitation, buy the TPB when it comes out.

Also, to the people who haven't read it yet, don't let the overly-simplistic line art and the obviously manga influences muddle your first impressions. The art is elegant, and despite the half-done look, it still manages to exude emotion from each panel. Kelly's dialogue is spare and sharp, and he really managed to transform Barbara into a truly sympathetic character (to the people that play DnD here, I'm pretty sure you'll find her appeal disarmingly intense at the first sight of her DMing a game), from the social pariah of the first few issues.

Everybody read it, or I will hate you.

I've heard people recommend this, but yeah, didn't really like the art.
Thanks for the links.
