In-depth articles here from IGN, Kotaku, and CNET.
Basically, it lets anyone with a good internet connection play ANY game on just about any "modern" computer without having to constantly upgrade your specs. This is accomplished as everything is run in the main network, you just have to input the commands with the controller and it'll reach that network and it'll play the "video" of that particular game on your computer. You can also hook it up to your TV!
There are still a lot of questions about this possible ground-breaking technology, one of the biggest things being "lag" and subscription services but if this does gain enough interest and it pulls through with its promises, the old business model of video game home consoles may be on its way out soon! There are already a number of big-time publishers chipping in such as EA, Ubisoft, Warner Bros., and Take Two so this direction of video-gaming just might see the light and we'll all be saying goodbye to the PS3s and the Wiis and the XBox360s. _________________ the word |

This is very promising, since a decent internet connection is very easy to get nowadays (hence the proliferation of MMORPGS and other onlne games which don't require as much processing power as more recent titles). The lag might be an issue, as it always is an issue, but I'm sure by the time the developers figure out how to commercially introduce this, they probably have a workaround or a fix that can eliminate the lag or at least decrease it greatly.
I dunno about the home console being slowly carted away. While OnLive seems to be a gamer's dream come true, the market for the console and games for the console will not liquidate that easily. It's more likely they'll try to make the console as multipurpose as possible; to make it irreplacable, since amping up the hardware will seem to be a moot point with the introduction of Onlive. The Wii will still attract buyers, I'm sure, but the classical consoles of the PS3 and XBawks360 will take this hit very seriously. _________________ love,
