Gaslamp fantasy-themed Cinderella story about a female mad scientist and her misadventures.

Plot is easily picked up, but the real appeal lies in the world the Foglios have established. Everything in the world is not what it seems; dismiss something at first glance and you're missing a wealth of references and excruciating detail that comes with the inherently idiosyncratic setting. And I repeat, it's about mad scientists; so expect everything you know about the mad scientist archetype to be poked fun on, played straight, and in some surprisingly insightful storylines, deconstructed.

The characters are well-fleshed out and incredibly interesting in their own accord. Dialogue's like written on a tight-rope and always personality-dependent, rivaling a strength of character development seen in Chris Claremont's old X-Men runs. Comedy is character-driven, so don't expect cola squirting out of your orifices without investing at least a bit of time reading up.

Pencilling is consistent (Phil Foglio has drawn for a very long time. You might remember some of his illustrations from old Magic: The Gathering cards), yet can be jarring at first sight. Phil seems to have some difficulty in maintaining anatomical correctness, but the flawed art is easily overlooked because of the strong cast and, if it's up your alley, quirky setting. In some respects, his art complements the dialogue and characters (I don't see them in any other art style for some reason). Colors have changed from stark black-and-white (which was breath-taking), to pastel hues (which gave me seizures), to finally professional inking (which are slick) from an outside correspondent.

Adventure! Romance! Mad Science!

All I can say is I wish the story could go a tad faster, but then again, I really don't have a say there. Aside from that, wonderful story. It brings out the mad scientist in you ^___^

I WAS WONDERING. :1 'wait weren't we just talking about this'

I like how the recent story's gone, and I'm so glad it updates more than once a week, or the plot (and THE FILLER EPISODES OF WTF) would go a lot slower. 8|

Crossing my fingers for more of the Jaegers, tho. They're my favorite part of the story, atrociously thick accents and all.

I read GG like I read Lackadaisy Cats: carefully, and semi-annually. Has it been six months already?
