Post subject: The Losers |

|
Trailer is up now and I can definitely say that I'm looking forward to this seeing as how much I loved the comic book series.
Plot: A black-ops team were double-crossed and left for dead after a top-secret and highly-dangerous mission by their government handlers and now they're taking revenge. It gets plenty more complicated in the comics but it'd be foolish to think that a (probably) 2 hour movie can cram all the stories that spanned 32 issues so I'll leave the premise at that.
Cast:
Jeffrey Dean Morgan - Clay: the leader of the Losers, the mastermind, the guy who keeps all the your poetry together. JDM showed off his acting chops as the Comedian in Watchmen so I'm not worried at all about him playing another badass mofo who can be as slick as hell(this time, in a suit!).
Zoe Saldana - Aisha: the silent, cold-blooded brutal womanly cur who grew up with an AK47 in her hands fighting against the Soviets. Not really part of the Losers who got screwed over before the story takes place but joins them anyway because of their common goal: kill the ever elusive and almost omni-present Max. But that's just in the comics. Unfortunately, they seem to be going for the classic femme fatale route with her portrayal in the movie, since her ruthlessness in the comics was a nice balance for the ultra cool and hilarity of the rest of the gang, but I hope it works out for this iteration. Zoe Saldana knows how to be "stuck-up yet sexy" with her role as Uhura in Star Trek and she's displayed that raw emotion as Neytiri in Avatar that should come up in the movie if they're gonna be taking a lot of cues from the graphic novel (which, they seem to be doing as they've got most of the characters' looks down pat and they did directly take panels from the book as shown by the trailer).
Chris Evans - Jensen: the wise-cracking tech-genius with a surprisingly indomitable will to live! He's also my favorite character in the series! Chris Evans doesn't exactly strike me as the geeky hacker kinda guy (he was the freakin' jock from that guilty pleasure of mine!) but being one of the only two guys in the FF movies that had some charisma and decent comedic timing, I think he can pull this one off.
Columbus Short - Pooch: the always cool, laid-back pilot of the team, and a family man to boot! Have no idea how this black guy here will perform. Quick background check shows that he's a dancer. A black guy who can dance. What a surprise!
Oscar Jaenada - Cougar: the silent sniper. There are no words (because he barely talks LOL). Haven't seen this actor but another quick background check proves to be useful as he seems to be a good Spanish actor, winning an award for best actor in one of their more prestigious award-giving bodies, so this gives me hope. He won't be saying much so he can't possibly drop the ball!
Idris Elba - Roque: the scar-faced second-in-command, extremely focused, the man who's got his mind on his money and his money on his mind. Don't know much about this black guy as well but he's played a significant role in the critically-acclaimed show The Wire and he's also played a part in the Office so I guess he checks out with the experience in action and comedy, two things the film has to deliver to be a success.
The movie comes out on April 9, 2010 and I will probably be watching it in a movie theater. _________________ the word |
